http://blog.petspyjamas.com/uploads/2013/09/Catg-Dog-eating-together-1.jpgGood nutrition enhances both the quantity and the quality of your pets life. Appropriate feeding throughout all your pets life stages can prevent and manage diet related diseases. Diets can be formulated to provide significant benefits to your pet based on their dietary and health restrictions.   There are 4 major factors in determining the right diet for your pet; your pet, their diet, how they are fed, and other environmental factors.

We start with the physical exam to see if your pet has any health problems that can be addressed through nutrition. Your pet’s age, physical health, and activity all play a role in the nutritional needs of your pet. We verify the pets intolerances, allergies, and organ specific issues they might have.

We then determine the diet factors, including the safety and appropriateness of the diet for your pet. We then look at the frequency, timing, location and method used for feeding your pet. Then we address environmental factors, including the physical space and the quality of your pet’s surroundings.

We evaluate both over and under feeding, excessive use of treats, poor husbandry, competitive eating (dogs), and lack of appropriate environmental stimulation.

Issues we look for:

  • Stomach Problems such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, flatulence, or constipation.
  • Ongoing medical conditions or disease
  • Medications your pet currently receives
  • Non-standard diet including raw, homemade, or vegetarian
  • Other foods including snacks, treats and table food
  • Inappropriate feeding
  • Inadequate housing
  • Muscle condition
  • Unplanned weight loss
  • Dental health issues
  • Poor skin or coat

You control the dietary nutrition of your pet which has a significant impact on the health of your pet. Give Harrisburg Veterinary Clinic a call today to schedule your dietary nutrition consultation at (713) 921-3300.

Client Testimonial

Dr. Farmer and the staff at Harrisburg Veterinary Clinic have taken wonderful care of the terrier mix that I am fostering! Oreo was hit by a car and broke his leg, and I really appreciate all of the time, attention, and care that Dr. Farmer has given us. The office is very clean, and you can tell that everyone who works there really cares about every pet that walks through their door! I highly recommend going to Harrisburg Veterinary Clinic if you are looking for a good vet!
